For the love of the Canyon

untitled-7133

I write this with a sad heart.

A couple days ago we lost Sidney Wilkens at age 95

We had a friendship based on our love for Agawa Canyon, it’s history and the Area of Lake Superior Prov. Park where he had visited with his Grandfather Sidney Johnson in the 1930’s.

Sad yes but also warmed by the memories we created by challenging me to find out more about Agawa Canyon and the people who came to that area and the hardships they faced, more than I ever thought possible!

You see Sidney’s Grandfather was one of the surveyors that put the tracks through Agawa Canyon.

Thanks Sid for a wonderful friendship and challenging me to be a much better person and getting me to remember and share the stories of all those who have passed these routes before.

I look forward to “seeing” you this fall on my annual trip to the Canyon.
